The Barefoot Professional Investigations legacy was started over 35 years ago when Jan Barefoot, a Charlotte native, combined the experience she had gained in the legal industry along with her King’s Business College degree to build a premier private detective agency; Barefoot Professional Investigations.
Her team has grown to one of the largest investigative firms in the region, serving major law firms, corporations, and thousands of individuals. Relentless attention to detail and ability to tackle the toughest cases has earned the respect and admiration of the top law firms and attorneys in the Carolinas.

FOUNDER & CEO
Charlotte native Jan Barefoot founded Barefoot Professional Investigations in 1986 to provide targeted investigative services to clients in the southeastern United States. Jan’s unique interest in investigations was spurred by her experience working within the legal industry and a keen ability to uncover details. Jan’s passion is to impact the lives of Clients from favorable verdicts in capital murders cases to restoring spouses whose families have been wronged.
Her approach to private investigations has always been simple: deliver on commitments and provide unparalleled customer service. By nature, private investigation work is often quite sensitive and can be extremely challenging to all involved parties. Jan knows how critical it is to operate with respect, discretion, and professionalism. Over three decades later and investigating over 200 murder cases and nearly 3,000 domestic cases, her investigators and staff continue to carry that torch. Jan holds a degree from King’s Business College and worked as a legal assistant for several years before moving to the investigative industry. She is an active member of the National Association of Legal Investigators, Intellenet, and the World Association of Detectives and enjoys continuing to grow and learn from the investigative community and industry colleagues.
CHRIS FOREMAN
PRESIDENT
Chris joined Barefoot Professional Investigations in January 2021 as President of the firm. In his role, Chris is focused on enabling growth opportunities, both from a service offering and geographic standpoint, as well as driving continuous operational improvement throughout the organization. His passion lies in building teams that, in turn, provide exceptional service and a successful client experience.
Prior to Barefoot, Chris received his MBA from Emory University and spent ten years in the consulting sector as a strategy manager at Accenture Consulting and PwC where he led a variety of large, multi-million-dollar operational programs for Fortune100 companies. In consulting, Chris specialized in corporate growth strategy as well as operational process improvement initiatives across several industries including professional services, retail, and consumer packaged goods. Chris also received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and is a major Volunteer sports fan.
